Blossom 81 lbs. – 25″ tall
Blossom’s name truly suits her personality. I’ve watched her grow from a sweet puppy into a magnificent Bernese. I must admit that Blossom was a bit of an impulsive acquisition. I went to visit a colleague’s kennel with the intention of purchasing a different Berner, but ended up coming home with the Berner I went there for and Blossom too. I just fell in love with this sweet girl!
As soon as I stepped foot through the door, Blossom was immediately there to welcome me and she shadowed me around the house. My colleague Pat saw the instant connection and decided to offer Blossom to me, even though she was not for sale. I was quick to accept this beauty! She had everything I was looking to add to my breeding program in terms of appearance, personality, pedigree, and health. I consider Blossom to be the ideal Bernese. She would fit well into any family and has been such a breeze to raise. She’s gentle, loving, and easy-going. There isn’t a hyper bone in this dog’s body! She may be one of my larger girls, but is still very gentle with the smaller dogs.
Not too long ago, one of my bernedoodles, Maggie, consumed an unidentifiable object that caused an intestinal blockage. Maggie had surgery to have the object removed, but didn’t bounce back as she should have. She needed a plasma donor. Of all my dogs, I chose Blossom. This was partly because Blossom is an incredibly calm dog and I knew she’d cope with the long process gracefully, but I also had a secret, and completely unscientific, hope that some of Blossom’s gentle nature might get transfused into Maggie as well! Maggie is a great dog, but she is far livelier than Blossom. The treatment was a success, but Maggie is still Maggie.
So, while Blossom couldn’t pass along her placid nature, she did save a life through blood donation. She is our SwissRidge canine hero, and it’s just another reason that I’m so lucky to have this girl as part of my breeding program. Blossom’s parents were both thoroughly health-checked and have hips in the 90th percentile on the PennHIP score.
