Step 3
In this step I will gradually start fading out how far I walk toward the mat , this means I am gradually decreasing the distance that I walk toward it. When the dog jumps on I quickly head over to the place mat and cut them off before they choose to come off the mat , and I begin the feeding process. If my dog gets off at any point in this stage I will use my conditioned punisher “AH” to signal incorrect behaviour withholding food and waiting until the dog is back on the mat .
The best case scenario is to catch the incorrect behaviour as it’s happening and block them with your body as in the previous video. If the dog steps off completely , you may have to say “ah” withhold food, say “place ” and walk your dog over to the mat at the distance they need. Only feeding when the dog is back on the mat and stable.
